International Women's Day: Embrace Equity

International Women's Day: Embrace Equity

On the 8th of March, the world celebrates International Women's Day, a day to recognize the achievements of women throughout history and to remember the struggles that we have overcome. On this day, we come together to embrace equity for all.

In the world today, it is our responsibility to be aware of the disparities that have always existed between men and women. From the workplace to our home, women still face prejudice and discrimination that are as old as time itself. We must remember that even though considerable progress has been made in recent years, these issues still exist. We need to use International Women's Day as an opportunity to reevaluate our current position and to consider the ways in which we can further champion the change we need and desire.

Equity stages the grounds for equality and equality amongst men and women doesn’t just mean having equal rights. It means fairness in the workplace and at home. It means lack of discrimination and willingness to accommodate each other.

We can start by remembering that promoting equity is about more than just us. It is about creating a society in which every individual is given an equal opportunity to reach their full potential and one of the ways this can be done is through sharing knowledge. A lot of people are still ignorant on what it takes to practice equity and it is our duty to educate and enlighten them. Embracing equity allows us to educate the people around us on its importance. Educating both men and women on the importance of treating people with fairness and equality.

As women, we must look at our lives and identify areas in which we can strive for greater equity. It is important that we are aware of our skills, attributes, potential, and that we can harness them to advance our careers and reach our goals. We should also encourage other women to do the same by offering advice, mentoring and support whenever possible.

Finally, we should remember that International Women's Day is a day to celebrate and be proud of ourselves.

On this Day, let us embrace equity by educating and spreading the word to people around us because if we desire real change then we must put in the work needed.

Happy International Women's Day.
